Pianistic Success

 

Just like any other skill, piano playing will require a lot of dedication and hard work. If you are passionate about playing the piano, look into the mirror and say - “I am the best pianist in the world. I am the best pianist in the world. I am the best pianist in the world.” If you think you have got the talent, then you have got it! Your optimism and enthusiasm will charge you for the numerous practice sessions that you will need to go through for becoming a great pianist. Positive thinking can do wonders and bring out the best in you.

The first step is to make up your mind to practice and the second step is to contemplate on the manner in which you actually practice. How many times do you look at the clock in a one-hour practice session? If you felt completely exhausted at the end of the practice session and didn't realize when the one hour got over, you can say that it was a worthwhile session. It is better to start early. Psychologists say that a child's mind is most receptive in the early years, say between the age of 8 to 12 years and the receptivity decreases as the age increases. As the child's power to absorb music lessons is at the maximum in the ages of eight to twelve, it is advisable to impart as much musical instruction to the child in these years as is compatible with his/her health and receptivity. Hence if a child is destined to make a career in music, it is not wise to postpone the work too long as this may be detrimental to the child's career. 

While mastering the techniques of playing piano, it is necessary to keep in mind that a combination of technical skills plus artistic intuition will bring out the best.Adequate technique will make you play effortlessly and that should be combined with artistic expression to create great music. A good pianist makes wise use of the pedal. They are not meant to be used to shield deficiency but to provide a background which is so important in artistic playing. We can say that the pedal does in piano playing what the wind instruments do in the tonal mass of the orchestra. After many trials and errors, a pianist comes to some conclusions and revelations about the use of pedal in playing a piano...almost the study of a lifetime.

Undoubtedly, the most indispensable thing in the education of a pianist is a good master. Someone who can be a guide as well as a mentor, piloting every day of a learner’s life. The hard work of the learner and the intelligence guidance of the master will certainly result in success.
